In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up Airdrop on your Mac so you can start transferring files in no time.
Check your Mac system requirements
To use the Airdrop feature, your Airdrop on Mac must meet certain system requirements. Ensure that it meets the minimum requirements before you proceed with setting up Airdrop. You’ll need a modern Mac OS device and two or more Apple devices to share files between. In addition, make sure Bluetooth wireless technology is enabled on all of your devices in order for the transfer to take place using airdrop on Mac.
Enable Airdrop on Mac
To enable Airdrop, open Finder and click on the ‘Go’ tab. Select the ‘Airdrop’ option in the sidebar menu. You will be presented with two options – “Allow me to be discovered by” or “No one”.
Depending on your preferred settings, select either “Contacts Only” or “Everyone”. Once you have selected your preferred preference, click ‘Done’ and Airdrop will be activated.
Check Library Sharing settings in the Finder app
To ensure Airdrop on Mac works properly, you will need to make sure the library sharing settings are enabled in the Finder app. Go to the ‘Finder’ tab and click on ‘Preferences’.
Select ‘General’ under the General section and make sure all file types are selected for Library Sharing, as well as File Transfer for both receiving and sending files.
Once you have adjusted these settings, save your preferences and Airdrop should now be set up on your Mac computer.
Configure Networking and Firewall Settings (if necessary)
If you’re using a Mac with older macOS software, then you may need to configure networking and firewall settings in order for Airdrop to work properly. You can do this by visiting System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall. Under Firewall Options, make sure that the “Allow incoming connections” box is checked and any other applicable options are enabled. Once these settings have been configured save the changes and Airdrop should now be ready for use.
Open “Airdrop” from within the Finder app and start sharing!
Once the settings have been configured, you are ready to open up the Airdrop app. To do this open your Finder and select AirDrop on the left sidebar. By default, you should see a list of nearby users that are available to share with.
You can then select one or more people, depending on what type of file you are sharing. That’s it! You’re now ready to start transferring files using Airdrop on Mac.
